How to Junk Your Car With No Title in Arkansas
Step 1: Check the title brand
Lost your title? Don’t panic. Depending on the age of the car you may be able to scrap it without one, and if not, a replacement is straightforward.
First things first: check your vehicle’s title status. You can check this through the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA). You’ll need an existing subscription, and the check will cost you $1.50.
You can also use a third-party National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS)-approved provider for a one-off fee.
Checking the title will help you provide the buyer with important information about the vehicle’s history, such as whether it’s ever had a salvage title, been rebuilt, or if it has an outstanding lien.
Step 2: Check requirements
Whether you can junk your car with no title will depend on state laws.
In Arkansas, a title is required to junk a vehicle of any age, with the exception of vehicles at least 25 years old.

Step 3: Junking a car that’s at least 25 years old
You may be able to sell your junk car without a title if it’s at least 25 years old.
Vehicles 25 years old and older can be junked using just a bill of sale, which the buyer sends to the Office of Motor Vehicle with the Notice of Intent to Dismantle a Motor Vehicle. An old registration and/or valid ID may also be accepted.
If your car is at least 25 years old and you don’t have the title, Arkansas lets you junk it with a bill of sale instead. The bill of sale must list the car’s make, model, and VIN, and a city police officer, sheriff, or deputy sheriff has to check those details and sign it before the sale can go through.

What happens to your car’s record after it’s junked
Once we’ve bought your car, we file a Notice of Intent to Dismantle with the Arkansas Office of Motor Vehicles. The state then cancels the car’s title and records that it’s being dismantled, so it can’t be retitled, registered, or driven on the road again. Together with your Notice of Transfer of Ownership, that closes the record and ends your connection to the car.

Step 5: Junk an abandoned car in Arkansas
In Arkansas, a car is defined as abandoned when:
- The owner has clearly shown they don’t intend to come back for it
- It has been left unattended for 30 days and the owner has given no indication they’ll return for it
If it’s obstructing traffic in a public place, it can be disposed of immediately.
You can either contact law enforcement or a towing company to remove the vehicle. Before the vehicle can be disposed of, they will attempt to notify the last known owner and lienholder.
