How to Junk Your Car With No Title in Massachusetts
Step 1: Check the title status

Before you get started, check its title status with the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles using the VIN and/or Title Status. This will help you clarify some important info about your ride that you may not know, such as whether it has any outstanding liens or whether it has a salvage title.
If the vehicle isn’t registered in Massachusetts, you can check its title status using a provider registered with the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS).

There are a few cirumstances where you won’t need a title to junk your car. These are:
- If the vehicle was manufactured before 1980
- If it was totaled and is more than 10 years old (it will be exempt from needing a salvage title)

Step 4: Apply for a Car Title in Massachusetts
If your vehicle isn’t exempt, you’ll need to apply for a new or replacement title to junk your car. Here’s how:
1. Apply for a Replacement or Duplicate Title
- Use Form TTL 117_0822.

2. Apply for a new title and transfer title
- Use Form TTLREG100_0923 (Registration and Title Application)
- Cost: $75 + 6.25% sales tax
- Options:
- Online: You can start your application online, and then visit an RMV service center with the required documentation. Can take 6-8 weeks.
- In person: Take your completed application form to an RMV Service Center. Can take 6-8 weeks.
- Mail: Send the completed form to the address below. Can take 6-8 weeks.

Step 1: Check the title status of your car → Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles
Step 2:
